Ye must go green and sin no more

The Vatican, through Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti, a close ally of Pope Benedict XVI and the head of the Apostolic Penitentiary . . . which is unlike the one in Muntinlupa but one of the Roman Curia’s main courts . . . has announced a new set of mortal sins:
1. Genetic modification
2. Carrying out experiments on humans
3. Polluting the environment
4. Inflicting social injustice
5. Causing poverty
6. Accumulating excessive wealth
7. Drug trafficking and consumption
Oh, for the good old days . . . dating back some 1500 years . . . when the seven deadly sins were clearly stated as sloth, envy, gluttony, greed, lust, wrath and pride.
Now tell me, is Bill Gates going to suffer eternal damnation for amassing ‘excessive’ wealth even if he did it the old-fashioned way . . . by earning it . . . or does the 6th mortal sin on the new list apply only to the real Jose Pidals of the world?
