Buenos Diaz, Chiz!

Two exceptionally super-achieving young Pinoys . . . Illiac Diaz and Sen. Chiz Escudero . . . have something in common with the Queen of Morocco, the King of Bhutan, CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Leonardo di Caprio.
All of the above are no more than 40 years old but, more importantly, they’re among the 2008 Young Global Leader Honorees of the World Economic Forum.
Everyone knows Chiz . . . and when all you’ve seen is an abomination of crooked presidents in recent history . . . it’s reassuring to note that the neophyte senator is emerging as a strong contender for the presidency come 2010.
Illiac . . . a member of the Diaz clan that produced a Miss Universe . . . first made his mark as an actor and commercial model but has morphed himself into an outstanding advocate of social entrepreneurship. So outstanding that he is the first recipient of the TOYM Award for Social Entrepreneurship.
If he were alive today, Jose Rizal would have been exceedingly delighted to see that when he said, “The youth is the hope of the fatherland”, his optimism would not turn out to be just another cliché.
