Pen to pen

It’s still unclear why Sonny Trillanes and his cohorts picked my favorite Makati hotel . . . way back in the early 1980s, I was an active member of a Rotary club that met on Thursdays over lunch at the Peninsula . . . to serve as the command post for his latest attempt at toppling Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

While it seemed farcical at best, it did look like an act of desperation for the neophyte senator . . . who still has to make his first privilege speech because he has not been permitted to attend Senate sessions while he’s incarcerated at a military stockade . . . but he overlooked a simple consideration that might have given his Pen ‘walk-in’ slightly better possibilities than a snowball lasting more than a millisecond in hell.

So what was Trillanes’ small oversight and biggest blunder? The weather! We Pinoys run for cover at the first sign of even a light drizzle! There was no way he and his co-‘revolters’ could have expected massive crowds to materialize as human shields around the Pen despite the threat of inclement weather.

By the way, it’s a good thing that the plan to move Trillanes, Danny Lim & company to the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa is being shelved . . . for now. Perhaps the administration does not want to rule out the possibility that Trillanes can very well talk hundreds of inmates into joining him on his next 5-star misadventure.
